Holiday nails are the easiest way to feel festive without changing your hair or wardrobe. Below are 15 winter and holiday nail designs, from classic red to snowflakes and velvet finishes. Each one notes whether it works best on Gel-X, acrylic, or a gel manicure, and how it's priced so you know what to ask for.

How pricing works for nail art

On the current menu, the base service sets the starting price, and art is added on top:

Service Starting price
Gel X Set $70
Acrylic Nail Set $75
Gel Manicure $35+
Custom Nail Art Priced by design
3D Details $10 add-on

Simple accents usually add less than full hand-painted sets. Send your inspiration photo when you book so the design can be quoted. Full menu: /services.

Gel-X or acrylic for winter designs?

A quick way to decide:

  • Gel-X is a soft gel extension that's lighter on the nail and often feels more natural. It's great for short to medium lengths, almond and oval shapes, and most flat art.
  • Acrylic is harder and sturdier. It handles long coffin and stiletto shapes and heavier 3D pieces well.
  • Gel manicure works on your natural nails for simpler designs if you don't want length.

For a full breakdown of wear and removal, see Gel-X vs. acrylic nails.

1. Classic glossy red

A deep, high-shine red on a medium almond or oval. Timeless, works with every outfit, and never looks out of season in December.

  • Works best on: Any set, including a gel manicure
  • Art level: None needed

2. Velvet (cat-eye) nails

A magnetic gel polish creates a soft, shifting "velvet" shimmer. Deep red, emerald, and navy are the most festive shades.

  • Works best on: Gel-X or gel manicure
  • Art level: Custom art, priced by design

3. Gold foil accents

Flakes of gold foil on a nude, red, or black base. Easy to wear and looks expensive.

  • Works best on: Any set
  • Art level: Light custom art

4. Snowflake accent nail

One or two nails with small hand-painted or stamped snowflakes on a soft blue, white, or nude base.

  • Works best on: Gel-X or gel manicure; the flat surface is good for fine detail
  • Art level: Custom art

5. Candy cane stripes

Red and white diagonal stripes, either on every nail or as an accent. Playful and fun for family parties.

  • Works best on: Medium length, any set
  • Art level: Custom art

6. Chrome silver or gold

A mirror-like metallic finish. It reads New Year's Eve as much as holiday, so it carries you through the whole season.

  • Works best on: Gel-X or acrylic
  • Art level: Custom art

7. Emerald green

A rich, glossy green is a fresh alternative to red. Try it solid, or with a single gold accent.

  • Works best on: Any set
  • Art level: None to light

8. Holiday French tips

A French manicure with the tip in red, gold glitter, green, or chrome instead of white.

  • Works best on: Almond or square Gel-X or acrylic
  • Art level: Custom art

9. Sweater texture

Raised gel lines create the look of a cable-knit sweater, usually on a cream, burgundy, or forest green nail.

  • Works best on: Gel-X or acrylic
  • Art level: Custom art; may include 3D details

10. 3D bows

Small sculpted bows on one or two nails. A popular finishing touch on red or nude bases.

  • Works best on: Acrylic or Gel-X, medium length or longer
  • Art level: 3D details ($10 add-on)

11. Ornament or bauble nails

Each nail painted like a small ornament with a highlight and a tiny cap. Cute and cheerful.

  • Works best on: Medium to long nails
  • Art level: Custom art

12. Black and gold

Glossy black with gold lines, dots, or tips. Elegant for formal parties and holiday dinners.

  • Works best on: Any set
  • Art level: Light to medium custom art

13. Frosted glitter fade

Fine glitter concentrated at the cuticle or tip and fading out, like frost on a window.

  • Works best on: Gel-X or gel manicure
  • Art level: Light custom art

14. Milky nails with crystals

A soft milky white or pink base with a few small crystals near the cuticle. Subtle, wintry, and easy to wear to work.

  • Works best on: Short to medium Gel-X
  • Art level: 3D details ($10 add-on)

15. Burgundy and plum

Deep wine and berry shades feel cozy from Thanksgiving through New Year's.

  • Works best on: Any set, including a gel manicure
  • Art level: None needed

Making holiday nails last through the season

Winter is rough on hands. Cold air, indoor heat, hand sanitizer, and lots of dishwashing all dry out skin and cuticles.

  • Moisturize cuticles daily with a cuticle oil or balm.
  • Wear gloves for dishes and outdoor cold.
  • Don't use nails as tools for opening gift boxes or prying tape.
  • Book a fill if you have events across several weeks. A Gel-X fill is $45 and an acrylic fill is $50 on the current menu.
  • Never pry or peel off a set. A professional soak off ($10) protects your natural nails. Nail repair for a single broken nail is $5.

Planning a full holiday look

If you're getting nails done for a specific party, match the vibe to your hair. Sleek buns and high ponytails look sharp with chrome or black. Soft waves and half-up styles pair nicely with velvet or milky nails. Browse holiday party hairstyles and New Year's Eve hair ideas for matching looks. If you need nails for travel or a one-night event, custom press-on nails are another option, made to order for $50.

Frequently asked questions

Are Gel-X or acrylic nails better for holiday nail art?

Both work well. Gel-X is lighter and often feels more natural, while acrylic is sturdier for long or dramatic shapes and heavier 3D pieces. Your nail length, lifestyle, and design decide which fits better.

How much does holiday nail art cost?

On the current Beauty, Boldly Done menu, custom nail art is priced by design and 3D details are a $10 add-on, on top of the base set. Share your inspiration photo when you book for a clearer idea.

When should I book holiday nails?

Aim to book a few days before your first big event so the set looks fresh but you've had time to get used to it. If you have events across several weeks, plan for a fill partway through.

Can I get holiday nails without extensions?

Yes. A gel manicure on your natural nails works for most simple designs like solid metallics, French tips, and small accents.
